Health Care is a Human Right
At AHCH, we believe that health care is a basic human right. Health outcome and access inequities are a major cause of homelessness and are a major consequence of homelessness, an oppressive cycle that continues to prevent individuals from living healthy lives.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center, AHCH addresses the health needs of people experiencing homelessness through our freestanding medical clinic just north of downtown and is conveniently located near other client resource organizations. Our health center is a recognized Patient Centered Medical Home and seamlessly connects individuals who come to our clinic to other AHCH services like housing, social services, and benefits enrollment to create a network of health and support.
Our Integrated Health Model
Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) is a federally qualified health center (FQHC), a designation provided by the federal government to community-based health care organizations that deliver comprehensive primary care and supportive services to underserved populations, regardless of a person’s ability to pay. As an FQHC, AHCH provides integrated medical, behavioral health, dental, case management, and supportive services to people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Albuquerque. AHCH receives federal funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Care for the Homeless Program, which supports specialized, trauma-informed health care services designed to meet the unique needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
