First Day of Winter
October 30, 2019
The 2019 First Day of Winter Annual Campaign:
Your Opportunity To End Homelessness

The First Day of Winter, the winter solstice, is a national awareness day to remember and honor those who have died while experiencing homelessness and honor those who have lost their lives unnecessarily in the last year. AHCH builds our annual campaign around the First Day of Winter to reinforce how important quality health care is to help overcome, exit, and avoid future homelessness.
This year’s campaign theme is:
“1 You. 1 Vision Together. Vision Together End Homelessness. You End Homelessness.”
While our primary focus is health care, our end goal is to help solve our homeless neighbors’ problems find housing so they can stop living on the streets. This year alone, we’re called to help approximately 7,000 people, but we can’t do it without you.
As the temperatures drop, the days get shorter and the nights longer, life becomes more challenging for those experiencing homelessness. We need to ensure access to warmth, basic life-sustaining needs, and complex care for people who need it most.
We must be ready for the many people with nowhere else to turn in the cold.
Building on the generosity of loyal and giving donors, we developed a dynamic campaign to support us in reaching our 2019 campaign goal of $215,000 from October 2019 to the end of February 2020.
Giving together creates collective impact and safeguards services necessary to end homelessness.
Giving is about acting on what you believe. Ending homelessness is about fighting for basic human rights and guaranteeing social justice. The health and safety of people who are experiencing homelessness are threatened daily because they are denied basic human rights.
Donations you give through the 2019 First Day of Winter Campaign make an immediate impact on our work. Your giftswill fund the investment needed to give essential care and help to people who need it most.
We hope you will find it in your heart to give again by December 31st to ensure we’ll have the resources we need to reach out to more people experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. Thousands of people who are experiencing homelessness will rely on us for help this winter.
We need give people a place where they can be welcomed without judgement, a place where they can learn to express themselves in positive ways and actualize those attributes that are uniquely their own.
We invite you to get engaged with giving and to understand the investments your gifts make by following the campaign.
There are a number of ways to do that:
