As a Federally Qualified Health Center, AHCH and our peers across the country are fortunate to have fabulous and accessible support from the leadership at the Bureau of Primary Health Care, part of the US Department of Health & Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration where the Health Center Program is located.  When they have an opportunity to travel, they make a point to tour local health centers. In April, we hosted an informal visit by Tonya Bowers, Deputy Associate Administrator of BPHC, and her colleagues Gladys Cates and Mayra Nicolas while they were in Albuquerque conferencing.

As an added bonus, we got a sneak peek at the progress of renovations of the new Medical Respite Program at the Gibson Gateway/Health Hub site slated for operation beginning in December 2024.  Donning hard hats, we were able to showcase this ground-breaking partnership led by AHCH and including the City of Albuquerque, Heading Home, UNM Hospital, and First Nations Community Healthsource. This program will create 50 new medical respite units that will provide post-hospitalization care for patients without a home. Through AHCH’s bold leadership and the forming of this incredible partnership, we also leveraged a brand-new Medicaid pilot and dedicated housing vouchers ensuring all patients can exit into permanent housing.
