Volunteering with AHCH

Thank you for your interest in Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless and our volunteer opportunities.  We want to make your volunteer experience with AHCH a meaningful and rewarding one.

Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless offers a Volunteer Orientation and Training Classes 4 times a year for prospective volunteers who do not have a clinical background/license (3-hour time commitment).

Upcoming Training Dates for 2008 are:

May 20th, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

July 15th, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

October 21st, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Orientation and Training for a volunteer with a clinical license is offered on a one-on-one basis throughout the year, although, those individuals are welcome to attend the general orientation and training, as well.

How to Apply to Volunteer

If you are interested in learning more about current volunteer opportunities, please download and complete the application form to start the application process.  Please complete the entire form and tell us about your interest in our organization and mission.  Because we only have a limited number of current openings, AHCH does ask all prospective volunteers to indicate what type of time commitment he or she could dedicate to volunteering.  Please indicate on your application approximately how many hours per week and for how long (ex: minimally, 3 months) you are available to volunteer.

Generally, AHCH engages volunteers only when they can commit to a regular schedule over a minimum of 4-6 months, and have skills which are needed in our programs.

Please note:

-The information in your volunteer application will be kept for 90 days.

-You will be contacted within 2 weeks if your expertise and availability fits our needs.

-If your information changes within 90 days, please email info@abqhch.org with your updates.

Want to Know More?

The majority of our service provision takes place during business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.  AHCH does offer some services, specifically outreach and residential services, during the evenings and weekends; however, volunteer opporunities at those times are the most in-demand and, therefore, are the most limited.

While you consider our volunteer opportunities, we invite you to come and see what we do here.  AHCH offers a monthly Project Tour that's open to all community members on the third Tuesday of the month from 1 to 3:30 p.m. We do ask that you pre-register if you are planning to attend one month, and you may do so by calling 505-767-1177.

AHCH is always looking for licensed volunteer health providers, including specialists, doctors, PA/NPs, nurses and MAs. Volunteers are also needed for outreach teams and, one-time volunteer projects for a group include picking up the grounds at our main campus or helping with painting/repair work at one of our residential sites. Although we wish we could accomodate all the requests we receive, we have a limited number of volunteer openings at this time.

We, at AHCH, are committed to ensuring that our volunteers have a meaningful experience here. Thus, we invest organizational resources in our application process to match individuals with a volunteer opportunity that best suits their interests and schedule availability and in training our volunteers, which includes HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) training with an exam and certification.
