Advocacy on policy issues is essential to AHCH’s work on behalf of people experiencing homelessness; not just in Albuquerque, but nationally too. AHCH advocates for solutions to the core issues that contribute to homelessness, including: living wages/entitlements, housing, and access to health care. An Advocacy Committee comprised of staff and board members meets regularly to prioritize and plan AHCH’s advocacy activities. Activities include hosting tours of elected officials, reaching out to neighborhood associations, working on cross-agency task forces, speaking at City Council meetings, registering voters and participation in coalitions and professional organizations.
